PERTH SUBURB HAMMERSLEY
The Perth suburb Hamersley, was named after the Hamersley family who settled in the area after arriving in the Swan River Colony in 1837.
A BRIEF HISTORY
The low-lying areas within the Perth suburb of Hamersley, were used for market gardening during the early years, with the remaining land in the suburb being largely undeveloped.
In the 1970'2 the western section of the Perth suburb was subdivided and developed. Then towards the end of the 1970's the eastern section of the suburb was also divided and developed.
Further residential development in Hamersley continued into the 1980's.
RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT
Hamersley was the pioneer in the northern Perth suburbs which influencing the standard of cul-de-sac design. A standard which later formed the basis for other subdivisions within the northern corridor.
The residential homes in Hamersley are generally constructed of brick and tile with an average lot size of around 750m2. The property in the western section of the suburb originating in the 1970's. This part of the suburb is characterised by modern single residential dwellings and duplex developments,while the developments in Eastern Hamersley contains more recent developments, a large proportion of which are two storey.
COMMUNITY SERVICES
There are numerous pockets of open space scattered throughout the Perth suburb of Hamersley so you can enjoy a number of open spaces throughout the suburb. This includes 'The Eglinton Aintree Reserve' which is centrally located and provides the suburb with a community recreation centre.
Hamersley also has a small commercial strip along Erindale Road to serve local shopping needs, while two primary schools provide for education requirements.
SIGNIFICANT LANDMARK
The ABC Radio Tower is a notable landmark for the suburb and the Hamersley region. The ABC Tower is located between Wanneroo Road and Erindale Road. It transmits 6WF radio throughout the metropolitan area.
