PARENT & CONTRIBUTORY PARENT VISAS
If you are a parent with children permanently in Australia who have been permanent residents in Australia
for two years or more, then as long as you pass the balance of family test you can apply to get an Australian Parents Visa.
The Australian Parent Visa has no cut off age and no work profession requirements.
Parents of any age can apply for either of the two visa categories, The Parent and the Contributory Parent.
The Contributory Parent Visa, which, was introduced in March 2003 has more than 3
times the number of Visas (3,500) issued each year than the Parent Visa (1,000).
As a result this means that the waiting period for a Contributory Parent Visa is 12 - 18 months,
compared to a 10-20- year wait for a Parent Visa.
The difference in the application fees between the Parent and Contributory Parent is huge, this is because when you migrate on the Contributory Parent visa you pay a contribution in the second part of your visa application fee. The contribution
is currently $TBA per applicant and is non refundable. You will be relieved to
learn that the second installment of the application fee is not paid until the visa will
be granted
