From childhood memories ice skating was a doddle, so I jumped at the chance of an afternoon as Perth Ice Arena in Malaga. It was a fun afternoon even though my memory of being good at ice skating was not so good. I lost count of the number of times I fell over and the older you get the further it is to fall :-). There was sighs of relief this week as the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA)cut the cash rate by 0.25 to 7. This is the first rate cut in 7 years putting an end to the string of rate hikes we have been seeing (5 in the last year alone). We are now watching the banks to see if they follow and reduce the standard variable rate. Indication is that they will. Tuesday 2 September 2008

OK, OK so the snow was not falling at ground level but at BLUFF KNOLL. Bluff Knoll is 3000 feet above sea level and I rekon it is probably the coldest winter since I arrived in Western Australia at the end of 2003. (still not seen my car frost over though)

I have never had the pleasure of seeing snow since I have been here but must admit looking at the photo taken by Stephen Williams I am tempted to head up that way the next time I think it is cold enough.

A keen hiker Stephen headed for Bluff Knoll (in the Stirling Ranges) Friday night so that he would be able to reach the top for sunrise in the hope of seeing some snow.

His efforts were rewarded, Stephen got to enjoy the experience of snow flakes flying around, even if they did mealt quickly after hitting the ground.
